Snapped derailleur hanger

I have a 2006 Giant TCR Advanced Team about 14 months old 8600kM and well maintained. I was just riding along this morning on my usual Saturday morning ride when the rear derailluer hanger snapped putting the derailleur into the rear spokes and scratching the carbon seat stay, damaging the bladed spokes on my Dura Ace wheels. It looks like the rear derailleur is a write-off. I would like to be a bit prepared when I go to the LBS on Monday to "discuss" the matter.

Is the derailleur hanger part of the frame & therefore subject to the lifetime warranty or is it part of the group set?

Interestingly Shimano Australia offer a 3 year warranty on Dura Ace components although I think they are only warrantied by Giant Australia for 12 months on the bike! Can't really understand that one.

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers:
