I think maybe women riding alone get less harassment, that is the really abusive violent kind. Mostly I get "get on the bike path!" or angry honks. But I think it's a macho thing- lunkhead drivers who see male cyclists in tights/shorts as 'less macho'. One guy I know was deliberately run into by some moron in a truck who had just come out of a bar!
HOwever, sometimes people yell NICE things: Allez allez! You go girl! Hey- I have a bike, wanna go on a ride sometime? Go go go! Nice bike! etc. And sometimes I get waves, thumbs up, nods and approving looks.
