Compatiliblity Q: Campy ergo, Shimano XT rear der.

I'm planning to build up a roadie for my wife based on a 2005 Bianchi 1885 frameset.

I'd like to use some spare components in the parts bin (e.g. Centaur 53/39 crankset, Centaur front der. etc.).

I'd like to have Campy Ergo shifters as well (read, hidden cables).

To lower the gear inches for the local hilly terrain (while still using the 53/39 double), I'd like to install a MTB cassette (e.g. XT 11-32, 9 speed). I calculated that a 39-32 (32 gear-in.) is as easy to push as a 30-25 (31.5 gear-in.). I've heard some long cage ders. can pull it off.

Questions:

1) Can an Ergo shifter work with a XT(R) rear derailleur? I have a tandem with an Ultegra STI and a XTR rear derailleur which works without problem, so I'm assuming yes.

2) If yes, do I have to get a 9 speed Ergo or would a 10 speed Ergo also work? Don't Campy ergo shifters have an unlimited range (or something like that)?

3) Could a roadie rear der. (e.g. long cage Centaur) work with an 11-32 cassette? I know that mfg. info says it can shift up to a 29 cog.
