I think the reason for this is that they didn't replace the cleat. The cleats on crankbros are made of brass and so they wear down instead of the actual pedal. You should replace them anually or the pedals might start to feel loose. Both pedals are good, i've had the 520s and now ride Eggbeater SL's and i have to say that i prefer the easy engage and release of the Beaters. Even though you can't tighten the eggbeaters i have never fallen out.
