There is a new shinburger out called the veggie burger. It's a hollowed out version that has big cutouts that actually make them grippier than before.
It's what I'm currently using. I think the major benefit is that the platform is
HUGE, bigger than the tiogas I was using before and just a hair bigger than the 50/50s. The benefit is that you can muss up your foot position pretty bad in the air and still have a stable landing platform. Plus, after smacking them around rocks for a while, I can say that the 7000 series aluminum they use is stout: the spikes don't wear down or take damage easily and are much sturdier than the tiny steel pins in other pedals I've been using.
These puppies, along with a good flat bottom shoe, are the next best thing to clipping in. I ditched my ATACs for them even for XCish riding.
