When I travelled I looked around and tried to find bike shops that I could rent a bike from. Some of the rentals were fiascos and others were new bikes that I put lots of miles on. I have also gone to the local Veteran's of America ,Goodwill, or other second hand stores and bought bikes to use while I was there and then gave them back as a donation and a tax write off for me. Now these were $50 to $100 bikes and not what I would normally ride, but they worked out for me.
