No stores sell the Cree models so there's no way to determine their brighteness without buying, trying it, then sending it back if you don't like it. Plus the con of this light on the Cree site was that it would not attach securely without wrapping the bar with electrical tape first.

Cateye has a couple of great front flashers that can be used as lights but not real effective to see with. The Cateye EL320 is a 1000 candlepower steady or flasher that will attach to your bar without Mickey Mousing ugly gooey black electrical tape. Also this light could be mounted on a fork blade if you choose.
They have several different models, the higher the model number the more expensive but brighter the light gets. The 320 is a good compromise between spending too much and not spending enough. http://www.cateye.com/en/product_listing/56
