Buy a high end steel older mtb frameworks. $200 say, from lbs and build up. $200 for modern parts bike used (poss damaged frame etc, just for good parts and you are SURE of compatibility.)
Brand new bb ( they wear and strip frameworks have no headset or bb.)
Front suspension is altered to budget ( go with the parts bike shock and then spend some money to upgrade- if the bike is performing to your liking and you want to advance its capabilities- a keeper.)
The way I build stuff, whatever.
Or maybe just buy a Trek or Specialized for the $500 and forget about the fun and satisfaction you could have doing it yourself. Or have a nice bike thats O.K.> Like 1 in a million. My #
