I like the 26" versions of the bikes! Not sure how often a headshock needs servicing, though. Those, and the Trekking range, look like the touring bikes you see in Germany.

Australia has the T800 (curved forks, American spec) and T2000 (straight forks, very nice components, noticably but not dramatically better ride) (BTW the latest T800 has some downspec'd components compared to the 2006). Not sure if the European versions can be ordered here but generally not.

Go for the bike, it is great, just make sure it is sized for touring and not as a road racing frame (ie. don't go too small). If the cost of the T2K is not an issue then go for that one. Should be easy to test ride in any major city eg. in Melbourne, Brunswick St Cycles keeps them in M and L for test rides.
