In my humble opinion, it's not how you or your bike look, but how you ride. I commute on a Giant Rainer I have hybridized to work in all environments. Looks like a Mountain Bike, rides like a road bike. I don't use panniers or racks as I don't like how it throws my balance off, so I use a big back-pack. I might use a rear rack if I could find a decent disc-compatible rack. Bottom line is, if it suits your needs as far as carrying everything you need on a commute, it looks perfect!
