How can i learn to ride properly?

Well i know how to ride a bike (i hope) and it's been my only way to get around the last 5 years but i wanna get a road bike and start doing some training as i have nothing to do in the evenings i could start riding as i have about 3 - 4 hours a night. But before i launch into it i want to make sure i'm sitting well and pedalling well and everything. When i ride my bike i'm aware that my feet are tense and my pedalling technique is awful and bouncy at high cadence's so i was wondering if anyone can recommend a book that takes you through all this kinda stuff or anything to do with road cycling technique. I don't want to start riding for hours only to find i'm causing myself injuries by tensing up.
