I've broken two helmets in the last 15 years. One on a mountain bike at around 20 mph, and one on a road bike at 40 mph. Both were falls to the left that resulted in the left side of my head smacking the ground/pavement. Thanks to the helmets, no loss of consciousness, and no road rash on my pretty head.
