Some of you are interpreting "cage" and "cager" too literally. Not all cages are for entrapping something. Consider a water bottle cage... (note that it too has no top, like a convertible).
There is no good word that encompasses all motor vehicles that have a protective body.
But cager is an effective term to describe one who drives such a vehicle. I don't understand the animosity some seem to feel towards its usage.
Just curious: Any difference between "cagers" and "drivers"?
