Download Audacity. It is free. While at the site, click on "Help" for the user's manual and quick use guide.

Basically, you open Audacity and tell it you want to make an MP3. Then you plug your microphone into your computer and speak into it. Audacity can also be used to make LP records over into CDs or MP3 files.

Our church choir agreed to sing one verse of "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" in German for our Reformation service last October. I found a German site where I could download someone's Reformation service in MP3. The congregation sang one verse on the MP3. With Audacity I was able to isolate that singing and make tapes as well as MP3s to give to the choir members, according to the technology each has available. They could hear and emulate the pronunciation while viewing the handout with the words. They sounded great when they sang it in the church service.

Anyway, get Audacity.
