Jamis Exile SS 26'er

Howdy all. I'm thinking about getting a SS, and the shop that sponsors my team (I'm a road and 'cross racer) has a '07 Exile SS 26'er that would fit me well and that I can get at a great price.

My goal is to use it just ride it for fun (I don't actually have a mtb or even actually ridden one before) and maybe to hone my off-road skills for 'cross. From doing some research about the bike (yes, I used the search feature) it sounds like the general feeling is that the frame is good, but the fork and brakes are not great. I think someone said that the crankset wasn't that good either, but that may have been for the geared version (which I don't think exists anymore.)

But I guess the question is, if I could get the bike at close to the "at cost" price, is it worth it? Since I don't know much about mtb's, it's really hard for me to understand the value of the pieces that make one up...

And additional feedback about the bike itself would help too!

Thanks!

(And BTW, you guys are sooo much more chill then the forum members in the road section )
