I've started my training for the KOM for next year and I'm looking at doing a ride in the Santa Monica's this Saturday considering that Palomar is closed here in Diego. I'm looking for some suggestions on the route that I'm planning on below. I'm using some of the Mulholland Challenge route but shorten it. I just don't have the stamina to do the entire '07 Mulholland route so basically, I want to eliminate as many flat spots as well as areas on this route where water and food (Quicki Mart etc) might be available. 15) Tuna Canyon Road / Saddle Peak Road
16) Saddle Peak / Stunt Road

That looks sweet. You mean Right onto Mulholland towards from Kanan to Cold Canyon I think.
You won't have any trouble with water. You'll be able to get stuff at:
3> PCH before Latigo at a 76 station
6> Rock Store on Mulholland after the Rock Store descent
11> PCH at the bottom of Las Flores
13> Topanga Canyon & Ferwood Pacific
Don't hit Topanga from PCH too late in the day, traffic can make that a little tight. If you don't want to deal with that traffic, instead of going down Las Flores to PCH, go across Saddle Peak to Tuna Canyon and go Tuna Canyon to PCH. Then come back up on PCH to Las Flores and go back up there. Las Flores is steeper, but shorter than the Topanga / Fernwood climb.
