Like you I covered many miles on a bicycle when I was growing up. My word we must've been wiry strong young things back then because my old English 'Perfect' was single speed and no lightweight either.

Thank you for the welcome. Yes, like you my childhood bikes were single speed, steel-framed machines. In fact, being the youngest of four boys I ended up with multiple hand-me-downs. (These bikes went through regular upgrades and modifications as wheels were swapped, handlebars made, banana seats fitted, etc!)
