No chain problems at all on my road bike. I live in a dusty/sandy area, and the mountain bike goes through them occasionally, but I lube regularly (usually ProLink; sometimes a goopier lube in wet weather) and they last about as long as I expect them to.
I spread about 3000-4000 miles a year among four bikes, though, so I don't get a lot of miles on any one.
