As the ladies can tell you, you have to suffer to be beautiful. Running Shimano just because it's cheaper or works better is no excuse. Just remember what the Harley guys say - "I'd rather push my Harley than ride your Honda"
Oh, and I'll second Big Bossman's suggestion - run Campy Centaur or a Centaur/Chorus mix. Or even full Chorus.
