A friend from England and I were discussing it a few years ago. He'd done it ... a few times I believe, and has no doubt done it again since. When we were discussing it, I was the closest I've ever been to a 1000 mile week with 862 miles for the week.
I'd ridden a bit before the PBP, I'd ridden the PBP, then I rode back up into England, and rode with the one of the CTC groups up there for a Sunday ride ... all prior to starting a tour of Wales.
So yeah, it can be done! If you've got a 1200K lined up for this coming year, that'd be the best time to plan it.
