Despite this gem of a line within your post... ...you've given us a pretty good report on the difference between the two. My experience matches yours. That is, between and alum and a carbon rig. I had a Trek 2500 Alum that was stiff as all get out. It flew when you wanted to accelerate. My current SWorks Roubaix isn't as fast off the line, but climbs like a dream. I wonder how consistent these kind of results are, generally speaking, between equal quality alum and carbon rigs? Probably can't make any real comparisons because of too many other variables, but food for thought.
