The 5BBT is good for slow cruising, talking w/ your friends and family, taking lots of pics and seeing a bit of each of the 5 boroughs. The Montauk Century Air mentioned is mostly flat and more of a cyclists ride w/ routes up to 140+ miles from Penn Station. I did the 5BBT last year and managed to avoid the block ups by starting near the front of the pack. If you can wait til Sept., the NYC Century is an excellent ride although you don't get to see Staten Island which is probably a good thing.
