I've always liked human-powered transportation. Before I started riding, I commuted by skateboard for over 15 years.

45-50 miles, round-trip

Yes. Twice a week.

1983 Austro-Diamler Mixte, road bike

$35 at a flea market
9) Why do you use the type of bike you do?
I'm more comfortable on a road bike than a MTB

Yes

Beach cruiser — riding with my kids around the neighborhood and local errands.
Specialized MTB - geocaching and camping.
Customized road bike with baskets and a home-built trailer - trips to the grocery store.

An affordable touring bike.

At least once a week. Sometimes more often.

Yes

How do you carry it?
Sometimes lunch. Sometimes clothing. Always coffee and extra water.

Cycling clothes.

Never. It's parked next to my desk.

25) How do you feel about the general state of the commuter market today, are you satisfied with the products offered for commuters?
Not exactly. Bike manufacturers seem to think that all commuters want a heavy, upright rig for commuting. Most road frames are not built to accommodate panniers.
26) What factors do you feel keep potential commuters from commuting?
Laziness and lack of confidence. People regularly tell me about how they "would" commute by bike, "but..."
