I know a lot of people who run 36's, I've been riding 32's and haven't had problems. Although, I use straight 14 gauge spokes so my wheels are a little bit stronger than a 36 with butted spokes.

Not to start a debate, but I've just had better luck with straight gauge over double butted regardless what the engineers say about "strength to weight ratios, butted are just as strong....blah, blah, blah".
