Welcome back. I only stand if I need to stretch the legs, climbing (bridges) or if I want to accelerates through an intersection when I get a green light, but I am never in the drops when I am standing. I typically ride with my hands on the hoods, more comfy as I have fairly wide shoulders.

I agree, your bars might be in the wrong position, loosen the stem bolts and rotate it back toward you.
