DC's a good commuting city. If you decide to get a different commuting bike, take a look at the Jamis line. I have a Jamis Coda that was great as a commuter (with a rack--plenty of eyelets) when I lived in DC.
Thanks for the comment. A buddy at work also recommended the Coda, so I've got my eyes peeled on Craigslist for one.
