Your Collegiate was built by Giant under contract for Schwinn, sometime in the mid-late '80s. Your Japan built bike was made by Panasonic or Bridgestone, again under contract, probably in the mid '70s to mid '80s. It's hard to know without a more complete discription, serial numbers, or pictures.
During these times Schwinn continued to also build many of their bikes in the US.
