I add ground cloves, cinnamon, ginger and a couple of shakes of a can called pumpkin pie spices. Nutmeg would also be good. I like heat and also add a spice that would not normally be associated with these, chili. Sounds a lot like mulled cider. I make that all the time. And mulled wine (usually with cheap merlot) and hot buttered rum.
