Thanks for the quick reply. I can almost definitively say that I've either broken the post or well surpassed the 4" mark, and even the 3". I think its time for me to swing by the bike shop and scope out a bigger seat post because I was just getting used to riding up higher, and feeling better after my rides.
Kalloy posts come in 400mm length, scads of diameters, and full retail cost is only around $25.00. That's long enough to leave a full foot of seatpost exposed.
