Generator Taillights -- commercial and make your own

Commercial Stuff
Anyone has compared the generator-powered tailllights like the Busch & Müller DToplight XS Plus or the Supernova taillight to see how they compare to the Planet Bike Superflash, for instance?

Modifying Commercial Stuff
There is actually one other project that would tempt me: modifying two Superflashes so they work in series, and then powering them from a generator. I happen to have extra lights, so the cost would be minimal. My only stumbling block is that I'm not sure how to go around the switch.

Making My Own Taillight
Finally, what if I were to make my own. What LED is used in the Superflash? I'm tempted to mount two red 0,5 W "floodlight" LEDs and make my own wired taillight. I know it won't be flashing, but now, I'll truly be able to have headlight and taillight at all times.
