I'll suggest a variation on this theme: low blood sugar. I'm an insulin-dependent diabetic and these symptoms sound
exactly like what I experience when my blood sugar is low. I, too, would encourage you to see a doctor but... if eating simple carbohydrates (e.g. sugar, orange juice, soft drink, candy, etc) cures your problem then it may be blood sugar-related.
