Next time pull your front wheel up over the lip, you don't need to pop a huge wheelie, just pull up and to the side a bit, the back wheel will follow. I have to do this all the time on my commute when I encounter the dread double length transit buses that force me up onto the sidewalk. Trying to just steer yourself over those lips when you are parallel too them is a recipe for continual disasters.
