Stow police seize marijuana crop in hidden room

STOW - Police charged a couple with trafficking and cultivating marijuana after officers on bicycle patrol detected the pungent aroma of a cannabis crop emanating from a house.
The couple, who were on vacation in the Bahamas when police first located the marijuana in July in a secret room in the basement of the house, turned themselves in after returning to Ohio on Friday.
John Constantine, 33 and his wife, Christine, 30, were released on bonds of $75,000 and $50,000 respectively after they were arraigned in Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court on Friday.
Christine ConstantineStow police said two officers on bikes smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the Constantine's home on Elizabeth Drive on July 29.
The odors were coming from a dryer vent and officers noted that the house had surveillance cameras mounted on the roof.
They obtained a search warrant and found a hidden room with a disguised door. Inside they located more than 100 marijuana plants officials valued at $75,000 and special lighting fixtures, fertilizer and carbon dioxide tanks.
Police also seized 11 vials of steroids and syringes and a loaded gun and ammunition.
The basement's rear exit was sealed with plywood.
