Here's one BikeForums member who did something like that.
Short version of the story:
- Went for a ride on a nice Sunday
- Rider got a puncture
- Improvised tyre boot (read: $1 bill) was not holding
- All bike shops on the island and in the vicinity were closed
- Rider tried to make a 27" tyre purchased at Wal-Mart work on a 700c rim
- Clever repacking of Mr. Tuffy liner provided more acceptable tyre boot for return trip
- Rider did not want to stand in long line to return said tyre to Wal-Mart
- Rider donned said tyre and rode with it across body all the way back
- Rider was ngateguy
