Storage at the airport can be quite expensive. When we were at the Auckland airport a year and a half ago, storage of a bicycle box was around 10 NZ$ a day
!
We ended up sending our tandem back without a box (long story). Although we were lucky and had no damage, I would not recommend it. The 20 NZ$ from Quantas sounds good to me.
