The light is appropriately named The Beast- a classic light. It brings back fond memories but it doesn’t hook to my helmet well. Impressive looking and honest specs but heavy and the performance increases of LEDs are starting to favor emitters. Now I use a light the size of a Mini-Maglite with a 1,120 lumen emitter and 4 levels of brightness. Small, it fits on the bike and will light up a field. Damn cars are starting to annoy me- they flash their lights. Get two of the emitters and you are roaming in The Beast’s territory yet with lightweight equipment. The beam pattern is different (I think better for riding) however still impressive and blinding.

In the minority, I still root for Surefire. I’m sorry that they did the costly research then many companies reverse-engineered their sweat to cheapen it all. The Wal-Mart mentality, monthly new slap-and-patch lights, and the throw-away society is a wasteful but popular view that I don’t agree with.
