The 2009 Kona Dew lists at $450. Is that in your price range. You won't be sitting bolt upright, but you won't be leaned way over either.

If you want to sit bolt-upright, you could look at something like the Specialized Crossroads. One of there 2008 models comes with a suspension seatpost for $360.

Visit some dealers in your area. Pretty much every major bike brand will have bikes that fit into the hybrid category. To some extent, you just have to get out and look at what's available until you hit upon a bike that you like, that you feel comfortable on.
