You really don't need a starfangled nut and topcap. What you could do is use a compression plug in order to preload the headset. Then after tightening the stem clamps, you can remove the compression plug and topcap and just run the brake cable through the hollow steerer. BTW, what kind of front brake are you using? This of course works easier with discs.
