I filled a little 10 oz or so bottle with gatorade and took off on my regular route. The bottle was loose in the holder, but I didn't think anything about it. And then I rode across the low-water-crossing-bridge, and that's when the bottle bounced out and rolled right in the creek...and that's a city creek that you don't want to be drinking any bottle that's ever touched it, so I just kept on pedaling. I was hot an could have used that gatorade, too.
When I was an undergrad there was a police log story in the local paper about a guy who jumped into the Muddy River in the Back Bay Fens in Boston to escape a mugger. The victim was immediately taken to a hospital for exposure to dangerous levels of fecal colliform bacteria
