Just to add to this chorus, the rim road is beyond spectacular. I rode it Aug. 2 the day before the Shasta Super Century. It was amazing. Maybe my favorite ride since I started road riding in the mid 80's.
We found the roads relatively quiet during or AM ride. It looked like traffic started to pick up as we were finishing.
Ride this if at all possible.
