Another year, another birthday

Planned on doing a long ride in the morning, and a sunset sail in the harbor later that evening. We got ready to leave and Linda noticed she had a flat. I noticed that she had left the presta valve open, so just pumped it up and it seemed to be holding. A mile and a half later it was looking low, but there was a bike shop nearby. We got to the shop and it was closed, and wouldn't be open for 1/2 an hour. So we rode back to the park, found a nice bench and changed the tube. Lacking confidence in her rear tire we returned to the shop (now open) where they suggested the flat(s), third one in 3 weeks were from cuts in her tire. So we bought a new tire, and another 30 minutes later we were finally on our way.

Weather was great, low 80's, low humidity, nice sunny day. But due to the hour and a half delay we didn't think we'd have time to do the long ride and planned on cutting it short. At around mile 12 Linda's phone rang. We stopped, and it was a message from the cruise company that due to mechanical problems our sunset cruise was canceled, but we could rebook an earlier one, or an night time cruise. We opted for the later one and got our full 45 mile ride in, along with a leisurely stop for lunch along the river.

Got back home with plenty of time to spare. And the nighttime sail looking at the city lights (with beer, wine and birthday cheesecake) turned out to be a nice relaxing way to cap off the day. Sometimes two things going a little wrong can make for a perfect day.
