When I rebuild older bikes, I use the "half" figure as a starting point IF the bike is in good shape.
500 does not sound bad if the bike truly has only a few hundred miles on it and has been well-maintained.
C-Dales tend to hold their value well.... You could indeed pick up a new bike for that much, but it would have a much lower "spec" as to components.
