I bought an Alan Super Record in 1980, finally sold it about 5 years ago. I kind of regret that now, so last year I scored a Vitus 979 and built it up with similar parts. It turned out to be a lighter bike and a more comfortable, less twitchy ride. Still, if I came across another Alan again, I'd grab it for sentimental reasons. Both were nice frames, ahead of their time for aluminum, and have somewhat controversial reputations.
