I concur with divineAndbright on the post war date. Skiptooth drivetrains were used into the fifties by some companies. Hawthorne was a Montgomery Wards department store brand and over the years they had bikes made under contract by several companies. The shape of the frame and fork crown look a lot like a '50s Roadmaster design to me.
