7 sp standard double to compact double
I have an early 1990s steel road bike with a standard double crankset, 53/39. It's a 7 speed drivetrain with downtube shifters. The FD/shifter is friction. I would like to switch to a compact double 50/34. The only compact double cranksets that are available are for 9 or 10 speed. Will a 9 sp compact work with the 7 sp drivetrain?
