The latching mechanism on my Yakima Big Tow Trailer is defective. The pins get bent when its on the trailer, which means the release mechanism doesn't, and I can't get the darn thing off when I need to. So here's what I did:
1. Unscrew the latch from the fork attachment and pull it off. You will bend the latching pin. Big fat hairy deal.
2. When you are ready to use the trailer, put it on the rear skewer and insert a cotter or hex pin through the holes the latching pin used. Bring spares, since they'll probably bend with continued use.
