I've always tried to live my the words Small is beautiful. Our family has one car, a 2003 Honda Civic. It's the only new car I ever bought--just wanted to try it once in my life, and I must say, it is fantastically well-engineered and completely reliable. Take the front wheel off (the bike, not the car) and you can fit a bike inside the trunk (the seats fold down).

I find it interesting that Honda has never laid off an employee or had an unprofitable year. It is leading the research in alternative-fuel cars. Their executives, who earn excellent money--but not the exorbitant salaries their US counterparts make--are picked from the ranks of engineering and manufacturing, not finance and marketing. As someone who works in a business school, which teaches finance and marketing, I think Honda has the right idea.
