--------------------------
According to the ride details on Benepe's blog, participants will ride "two by two". While New Jersey state code allows two-abreast riding unless being overtaken by another vehicle, some municipalities' codes do not. New York state code does not allow cyclists to ride two-abreast in a lane of motor vehicle travel. Rockland Bicycling Club's position is to ride single-file on all rides on all roads, except on routes known to have sufficient shoulder to accommodate two cyclists riding abreast without either of them crossing the white line into the roadway, with the exception of cycling in municipalities where cyclists are required to ride single-file. (We're not aware of the arrangements, intentions, or special consideration granted regarding rider formation on Sunday's ride, once they've crossed into New York). We support cyclists' right to safety and respect on the road as well as their responsibility to ride safely, respectfully and lawfully. Ride smart and ride safe.
