1) what kind of dropouts does he have? not sure? then why are you saying "convert it fine"?
2) what is the rear spacing?
3) any idea what sort of bottom bracket he's got? what does he do if it's a one piece?

please refrain from giving advice about things you don't really understand yourself.

OP, post a pic of your bike. without knowing what you're working with, it's impossible to determine what you can do to it.
Once you know what's going on, you can begin sorting out your options.
