I looked further down US301 on Google maps streetview, and the speed limit is 55MPH.
It's a poor design, as there are no warning signs to let drivers know the crossing is ahead. The signs are equestrian signs, and are located right-at the crossing.

The bike path does have STOP signs, where the bikes are supposed to stop.
